| Terrorist Teens in Tacoma |
| 12.08.04 (5:10 am) [edit] |
In the suburbs of Tacoma, Wash. three teenagers were arrested last week for allegedly plotting a Columbine-style massacre at their high school. These three students-- an 18-year-old female and two males, ages 16 and 18 -- had not yet secured weapons and were a long way from carrying out their plan. According to Leonard Pitts, a Miami columnist, they had two motives: They wanted to show that even in a time of heightened terror alerts, no place is safe from attack and they wanted revenge for being teased.
My question is—Where were the Christians in this school? Wasn’t there a Fellowship of Christian Athletes or Bible Club in the school? My guess is that there was probably a Christian Club of some sort at the school. If not were there no Christian kids to “minister” to these outcasts?
How would the lives of the three teenagers been changed if they had experienced a sincere dose of Christian love. What if there were Christians in the school that had adopted the UCC’s interpretation of Jesus’ ministry that “Jesus didn’t turn anyone away. Neither do we.”?
It’s interesting that Christian students at Columbine High School were targeted by the killers. Is the message that God loves you so offensive? Why is Jesus’ message that all are welcomed at God’s table so controversial?
