Hey Bush! If It's Not Broke Don't Fix It!
02.18.05 (5:50 am)   [edit]
The Bush administration will soon have its bill limiting lawsuits signed and sealed. Bush argued that too many “junk lawsuits” have damaged our economy. Greedy lawyers have exploited the justice system and are ruining our country! Far be it for me to defend lawyers, but I do think that many lawyers perform a valuable service in securing justice. http://www.cnn.com/2005/ALLPO...

My main concern however is the inconsistency that conservatives and Bush are displaying here. They are saying that our justice system can’t be trusted. They are saying that Congress is a better judge of what’s right and what’s wrong and so is the president. After the debacle in Iraq, I don’t trust the president to make wise decisions. After seeing all kinds of crap Congress has done in my lifetime, I’m not so sure I trust them either.

But what really bothers me is that the President and conservatives are saying that our justice system is broken and doesn’t work…then they allow and even encourage this broken system that can’t be trusted to make the right decision to determine life or death issues! If the system isn’t trustworthy, why should you allow courts to determine if one should be killed, oops, put to death? Why is the system able to make proper decisions in this area? Seems pretty darn important to me! The death penalty judgments are sure to be correct, but the fact that tobacco companies might be engaged in something that could be hazardous is of course very uncertain. But even if they are doing something wrong let’s not hurt the economy over a few thousand folks that are impacted by industry and medical “problems”!

Help with Country Music Song and Buddhism
02.16.05 (8:35 am)   [edit]
I really hate to admit this but I was watching CMT (country music channel) today and saw a video by someone who was singing about his pentecostal experience. He briefly slammed (I think) Buddhists. I'd like to know if anyone has heard the song and knows who the artist is. I'd like to see the lyrics.

I feel so bad that you know about my watching CMT!

Bush Administration Supports Torture Again: But This Time It's Our Guys!
02.15.05 (7:10 am)   [edit]

The LA Times reports that the Bush administration is fighting former American prisoners of war in court. After having received a judgment of almost $1 billion from Iraq because of their being tortured by Saddam Hussein's men, the former prisoners are now being told that they should not collect on this judgment.
At least Bush is consistent on his position regarding torture. Hey, It's not really so bad!

A Suffering God Served By "Powerful People"
02.14.05 (11:28 am)   [edit]
From Paul Fiddes’s Creative Suffering of God-
“A belief in the unique presence of God in the Crucified Christ means that God has chosen to identify himself as God in a dead man; he has chosen to define his deity in weakness. This strikes a blow against all human self-aggrandizement and self-deification, where power is defined as the ability to inflict suffering upon others and avoid suffering for oneself, and where the weak and suffering are despised as of no real account and as failures of the system. Whatever we think in our better moments, we often act on the basis that refugees have no votes and starving children have no armies. But the belief that God is uniquely at one with the crucified Jesus turns all human values upside down; God is revealed not as one who causes suffering, or has escaped great suffering, but who suffers.”

How have we as Christians defined power lately? Have we defined power as the ability to attack a country that might (even though they didn’t) pose a threat to us so that we might feel secure? Oh how we want to dominate others and claim to be doing it in their best interest!

Americans Are Morons!
02.02.05 (5:50 am)   [edit]
I’m so sick of the shallow, inane, goofiness of American culture! Seems that only freaks and idiots are worth our time. For example, my 3rd grader came home yesterday and said they watched the Michael Jackson trial at school! I probably should call the school and complain, but I’m afraid they’ll watch Sponge Bob or God forbid Buster instead! :)

Desperate Housewives? Where the he** are the feminists? Why aren’t folks up in arms about the commodification and exploitation of women in that show?
What’s the deal with Anna Nicole, Paris Hilton, and Trump's wedding? Tell me! I just don’t get it!

Don’t get me started on Bush and Kerry! Are those guys really the best we could come up with?

Why is it (and I won’t give him the satisfaction) that the goofiest, most incomprehensible blogger out there is in the top 10? Just checked and it's not in the top ten right now!

Boycott stupidity! Don’t watch the crap on TV. When someone asks what you think about Michael Jackson say, “Michael who?”

Don’t visit you know who’s blog. Don’t get into debates with mindless morons who can’t read, understand your point, and formulate a coherent reply!
