Baptist Theology: A Critical Look
Judge: Parents can't teach pagan beliefs
05.28.05 (10:42 am)   [edit]
It is an historical fact which is currently being ignored by Baptists in America that their forefathers (sorry…not to many women involved in the struggle at that time) fought for the seperation of church and state in this country during its inception. It might be a leap to say Baptists were solely responsible for the idea http://www.usconstitution.net..., but they were very important.

Now is the time for Indiana Baptists to take a stand for religious liberty! http://www.indystar.com/apps/... "An Indianapolis father is appealing a Marion County judge's unusual order that prohibits him and his ex-wife from exposing their child to "non-mainstream religious beliefs and rituals."
The parents practice Wicca, a contemporary pagan religion that emphasizes a balance in nature and reverence for the earth.
Cale J. Bradford, chief judge of the Marion Superior Court, kept the unusual provision in the couple's divorce decree last year over their fierce objections, court records show. The order does not define a mainstream religion."

This is an incredible opportunity for Indiana Baptist to demonstrate their love for their neighbor. I only wish that I could stand with Thomas Jones as he fights the judge’s decision. I will be praying for him though.

Thank you for your prayers, for my family.

I'm glad that you posted this. It is unfortunate the this judge is abusing his power to affect the religion of these people.

I'm not going to rant on about how wrong the judge is. I'm sure that he knows full well what he is doing.

Church and State should be seperate, what the Jones do in regards to their faith is a personal thing.

Wiccan's believe in "harming None" and it is impossible for the jones child to be exposed to evil things because of his parents faith. but you know that longshot, i mostly wrote that down for the other people who will be reading this, and may not know as much about Wicca.

This Judge needs to get off his high horse and spend his energy saving children for abusive, drug taking, alcholic parents, not Wiccans.

There that was me little rant. Again thanks for posting it. Pray for the family, and pray for the judge to see the truth. I certianly will be.

thank you for alerting us to this travesty, funny we would hear from every pulpit Sunday if this were a "christian" family, but if we do hear it it will be thank God someone is standing up for God in the judicial system. BUNK!!!

i'm glad you posted this for now i will have the opportunity to pray that God has mercy on this family and that He also may bring conviction to this judge.

if it's the way you describe it, that's pretty terrible! well, God works in mysterious ways, so prayer is indeed a good prescription for this situation.

we've been talking about this at one of my wiccan forums and, as you can guess everyone there is pretty ticked off about it. But the questions was posed "put you'e self in the Judges shoes, and think about why he did it." the reponse from almost reveryone was that they think the judge did it, not to shameface wicca, but becuase these Wiccans are sending their child to a catholic school. Imagine the confusion of this poor kid?

I assumtion is that the catolic school is a private school, therefore most likely a better education, and that's why these parents want their kid to go there.

And if the judge is trying to save this kid for confusion, then his choice is the right one. If he's just trying to SAVE the kid, i disagree with his decision.

I sent my kids to a very conservative Lutheran school when they were younger. My son, second grade at the time, loved dinosaurs. His teacher said the Bible says there's no such thing as dinosaurs! He came home and told me about it. I asked him what he thought and he just laughed!
I'm not sure kids can be that screwed up by being exposed to two views any more than I'm screwed up because I was raised a Baptist.
I survived.
